New Position for Penning

Trevor Penning left guard New Orleans Saints has been the recent headline from OTAs. The Saints are experimenting with Penning at left guard after drafting two picks at tackle during the first round of the draft, Kelvin Banks Jr. and Taliese Fuaga.

Maximizing Potential

New Orleans Saints would like to have all 3 of these guys on the line. I mean can you blame them? Especially with 2 of them being taken first round in the draft, there should be some sort of expectation here. Cohesion between the players is a big thing for Coach Moore.

No Issue Here

Trevor Penning was a first round draft pick in 2022. He has played mostly at tackle but is now embracing the switch to guard. Saints coach Kellen Moore said Penning is “doing an excellent job” and fully embracing the new position and role on the field. New Orleans’ decision not to exercise Penning’s fifth-year option makes this season crucial for his future in New Orleans. If he excels at guard, he could secure a starting job or boost his value for free agency.

During OTAs this week, the Saints lined up Kelvin Banks Jr. at left tackle, Penning at left guard, and Taliese Fuaga at right tackle.  They seem to believe that this lineup puts each player in a position to succeed. Leaning toward Penning’s physicality potentially making him a better fit inside for the team. The Saints are looking to build the best possible offensive line as they prepare for the 2025 season.
